I'm a good mom. I love my kids and as you may have noticed from a previous article, the worst threat is to "beat you with a pickle". So when my 18 month old daughter woke up and couldn't move her left arm, I was concerned to say the least. I racked my brain to figure out what might have happened to her. The only thing I could think of was last night. After a bath, we chase her around and "catch" her with the towel to dry her off. Well, last night durring the game, she suddenly burst i...

While I wait for my kids to take a nap (and allow me to get back to work) I will update you on the bathroom progress. The hardi-board is up. The tile is *mostly* up. The 1st coat of paint is up. I found the right fixtures. I am well on my way to finishing on time! I still have a few things to do. Cut the tile that goes around the fixtures. Replace the baseboards (The tile fits slightly diferently so I need to fix those.) Paint. Hang hooks/towel bars. Put a GFCI outlet in. Grout. ...

So back at the begining of this project, I decided that since the wall was down, I might as well raise the showerhead 5 or 6 inches. See, the issue is, my DH, HW is 6'3''. I'm 5'6''. The shower was short even for me. So I figured that this could be a good Father's Day present, even though he wouldn't be home to see it. I do NOT want to burn the house down, so welding indoors is out of the question. So I'm off to call a plumber. He seemed really nice. He was polite and up front...

While working on my bathroom remodel, I discovered to my dismay that the wall behind the toilet (next to the tub) had signifigant water damage. Sigh. So I cut the damaged part out today and I will let it air out overnight. Spray it with bleach too. So I had to stop the painting and wait to fix the wall. I also went to Home Depot to get some fixtures, light and water. They were doing a kid project and Connor built a tool box. He painted it when we got home....green and yellow splotch...

I know you have heard them. If you are a parent, you probably have used them. The THREAT. The ones that are completely ridiculous that spew out of your mouth when your kids drive you crazy. "If you don't stop hitting your brother, so help me, I will sell you to the gypsies." You will hear the phrase, "so help me", "when your father comes home", when I get you home" interjected into many sentences like extranious punctuation. Here's my list. "....I'll beat you with a pickl...

"Having children has become a fad, and as will any fad emanating from Hollywood, self-augmentation, adornment and going to the extreme are going to be present," he said. Pam Satran, co-author of the bestselling baby naming book "Beyond Jason & Jennifer," says that for years bland names were the order of the day, but not any more. "Twenty years ago celebrity baby names were pretty simple. It was Kate, Kate, Max, Max. Now celebrities are trying to outdo celebrities," she said. Here are...

I put my two adorable, but exhasting children to bed at last. I could finally get some more work done on the master bathroom. The plan: finish tearing out the old tile and damaged drywall. So imagine my surprise when my son giggles and wanders into my room. "Good morning, Mom!" Sigh. (don't laugh) He was only in bed for 15 min. But seeing as that was a pretty inventive excuse to get up, I invite him to stay up for a few more min. He watched me with wide eyes for a a while and...

My husband is at JRTC. Normally, I try to think of something to do while he's gone. I rearrange furniture, paint a room, maybe do some fix-it stuff around the house. These are things that he appreciates when I'm done, but really, hoonestly wants nothing to do with. That's fine with me, because it keeps me busy so I am to tired to mope around. I have one up-ed myself this time. I started exactly one hour after I KNEW he was on the bus and driving away (I didn't want an Army Snafu to se...

Rain can clean anything.....that's because the water is blue. My dad is so strong that he can scare away monsters and aliens. That's because he is a soldier. When I grow up I want to be in the Army like my dad 'cause he's cool. (After going to the bathroom) I don't need to wash my hands. (looks carefully on his hands) I don't see any germs. Why do we have to have Wednesday? Milk is wet so it will clean my teeth. (as a reason to avoid a toothbrush)

Scene: Last night, bedtime for boy. Family is sitting on the couch when the anouncement comes. Mom: Okay, Connor it's time for bed. Did you brush your teeth and go to the bathroom? (Nods from boy) Dad: Come give me a hug. Boy: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9....(deep breath)...10...(slows pace down) 11 12 13 14 15 16 17... Dad: Whoa, Stop. What's up with all the counting? Boy: First you say 1, then you say 2 and then you have to say 3 and then you have to say 4...

My son doesn't qualify to attend preschool next year. I have nowhere near the money it would cost to put him in a private program, so I'm continuing to casually teach him stuff at home. (I say casually because I am not deluded enough to think I am the type of person who can successfully home-school. I know my limitations) Seseme Street is my "backup/reinforcement" plan. We cover stuff and then when he vegges out in front of the tv, I can console myself by saying "it's educational". (N...
