a place to put random discourses on life
How many times do you have to say it before it sounds normal?

"Having children has become a fad, and as will any fad emanating from Hollywood, self-augmentation, adornment and going to the extreme are going to be present," he said.

Pam Satran, co-author of the bestselling baby naming book "Beyond Jason & Jennifer," says that for years bland names were the order of the day, but not any more.
"Twenty years ago celebrity baby names were pretty simple. It was Kate, Kate, Max, Max. Now celebrities are trying to outdo celebrities," she said.

Here are some example of what celebrities have recently called their children: Julia Roberts, Hazel and Phinneaus; Gwyneth Paltrow, Moses and Apple; Jason Lee, Pilot Inspektor; Joely Fisher, True Harlow; and Nicolas Cage: Kal-el.

Ka-el?!?!?! What was Nick thinking?!?! Did he just watch a little too much Superman? Was it a joke? Does he even think about that happens if he is yelling at his kid in 12 years? Of course, they don't have to worry about calling the kids to come in for dinner...the maid will handle that.

Anyway, after the shock of hearing all the attrocious names being branded on the children of Hollywood, you have to wonder. How long will the baby trend last? For years, women put off having a baby and then quietly left the limelight for a while, returning only when the battery of nannys, cooks and maids had the baby well taken care of. Now totting around a mini-me is a good way to get your name in the paper again.

It's not like a puppy that you discard when you get bored with it.....this is a long commitment. I wonder if the attention span will last that long. Will the attentiveness towards the children fade as soon as the media frenzy dies down?

My neighbor's name is Wrangler and I feel stupid calling him by his name. There are lots of people in Texas who name their kids stupid "cowboy" type names. It kills me. I hope they never move out of the lone star state.

Also Kal-el's parents will probably never correct him. Maybe the nanny but not the parents. Sad isn't it.

they would have been better off naming the kid Clark Kent over kal-el, man is this kid gonna be tortured in school, unless he insists on being called "Cal"

It just screams of self-importance. It is as if they figure they are so important that no one would dare make fun of THEIR kids. After all, they are STARS!

Nic should know better.

It's not that Nick watched too much Superman. He's actually a giant comic book geek. In his previous relationship, he got rid of his comic book collection to the tune of $1mil+, a decision which he regretted soon after. Cage made a (thankfully) unsuccessful bid to be the Man of Steel in the upcoming film, but had to settle for Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider.

"Kal" would be the probable short form, since "El" is actually the family name. It's also possible that he could be "Clark" like "Jonathan" might become "Jack".

Good grief! If Jason Lee's gonna use the name "Inspector" (sic), he could have at least named his son "BREAST Inspector". That way, when the kid applied for a driver's license, he would be in for quite a heated argument at the DMV. And he would DEFINITELY be president of his fraternity once he made iot to college.

But you forgot two of my favorites: Demi Moore's children (and [shudder] Ashton's stepkids): Scout and Rumer.

Ummm...Moon, Dweezil? Maybe Frank was ahead of his time?

you know Demi's other with Bruce is named Tallulah Belle, making Rumer and Scout sound almost common.
