Back story.... 1)Today is a big unit function that is so we can celebrate the great, wonderful support that this group gave our soldiers while they were in Iraq. It starts before the kids get out of school, so I have to pick boy up early. 2) Last night, after Boy's Parent Teacher Conference (yeah, he's doing great.) the electrical system on the van went all wonky. The lights and blinkers didn't' work. The sliding doors wouldn't open. Grr. So we headed over to the Ho...
I just got a birthday box in the mail....thanks to BFD and Mama Charlie! I recently bemoaned how I must be an adult because I was excited about getting a real life, frost-free freezer. Yeah, I was happy. Too happy. I must be an adult. Actually, it's probably about time. My birthday is tomorrow. I have less than 2 hours left of being in my 20s. I suppose I am an adult.... But back to the issue at hand. Mama Charlie sent me a rockin' cool box. She sent a cookbook full of reci...
Somehow I was extra productive yesterday. I'm not sure why. I've had a hard time getting motivated since I went to Alabama (the only State that has a statue in the middle of town honoring a BUG) but yesterday, I got moving right away. It probably had something to do with the fact I did NOT get on the computer till after I did my chores.... But I digress, as a mom....I rock. I made homemade bread yesterday and it was fantastic. I had to force myself not to eat the whole loaf. This morn...
Technically it's not her birthday yet, but we celebrated early because her friends will be busy on her birthday this year! And since she had a birthday tea party with friends.....we had a mini-party again this afternoon with her brother. Watch this article...I'll add some pics from the princess party.
So my daughter, decided that she wants to be a mommy. I have completely supported her decision (as long as it's stays pretend until there is a ring on her finger). I even have played "babies" for hours on end and rocked her dolls to sleep. But I simply must draw the line at being referred to as GRANDMA.
So today was a happy day. No particular reason why but it was a great day. Here are a few of the things that made me happy today. My friend brought me hot chocolote from Starbucks and the weather was perfect for sitting outside and enjoying it! My tomato plant is happy and healthy.....soon I will have fresh tomatoes to eat! Maddy decided to color on the sidewalk while she waited to go on a playdate. Her cuteness inspired me to take tons of fun pictures. I haven't been very in...
I'm sure you have all heard of the rhyme...."step on a crack, you'll break your ______'s back" Well, my 5 year old decided to teach my 2 year old. They took it very seriously and jumped over EVERY CRACK on the way to school. 9 blocks of cracks. It's a good thing we left a little early this morning! Last night, I was awakened by my daughter at 1 am. "Mommy, I have to pee." We took a trip to the bathroom and after tucking her back into bed, I drifted back to sleep...... only to...
and my favorite...the kids demoing the "boogie woogie!"
This morning my daughter announced that her dolls had names. This is a fairly new trend since her idea of naming something usually consists of naming a stuffed dog, "puppy" and a doll, "baby". I think she has picked the 2 coolest names in the world. She has 2 dolls from the Dollar Tree that she is allowed to take anywhere (even on a Walmart trip) and she decided to name them "One" and "No-one"! Fantastic. And as a special bonus...here is a clip of my son singing just for you...Can you ...
If you didn't catch a previous article, I'll say it again.....Hyperborean Wanderer will very shortly (at an unspecified date) be wandering a lot less. He is in fact, coming home for R&R. His son is understandably excited. He keeps telling me how that "when I see my dad at the airport, I'm going to run up and hug him so fast that he falls down!" Today, I suggested that the kids play with chalk on the back porch and that developed into the idea that they write "Welcome Home Dad" on the...
This morning, my darling daughter asked for pancakes. My son (strangely enough) prefers bran flakes, so as she was waiting for the pancakes to cook, he was already pouring a bowl of cereal. She decided (after I started cooking) that she wanted bran flakes and instant gratification. I informed her that she asked for pancakes and so she was getting pancakes....not bran flakes. My son explained it to her. "Maddy, you wanted that but now you wanted this but you don't get what you want, y...
My MIL, henseforth known as "momma charlie" is one of the most talented women I know. I could heap praise on her for many things, but I want to point out how freaking awesome she is in regards to quilting and sewing. She taught me the basics, but wholey wow, she is good. I'm so impressed with her ability to pull out seemingly mismatched fabrics and create works of art. For the birth of both my kids, she (and Mamie) graced me with enough quilts, blankets and throws to use a different one...
Hyperborean Wanderer, while willing to eat chicken head soup, will not touch a bean or legume of any kind. He loves mexican food, but refuses to eat refried beans, chili is just a bowl of tomatoes, meat and seasoning, and stir fry is lacking in snap peas. Until now. Since he is gone, I have been exposing our kids to peas and beans of every kind, in the hopes of killing this trend. Today, Connor decided that he liked snap pea (pods) after I turned dinner into a science class. I showe...
Connor is so brave..he has really started to conquer his fears!
As most of you know, I am taking flying trapeze lessons. My son, Connor loves it too. He got to do a trick the other day and was thrilled. He also had a blast seeing a children's theater production of Peter Pan. The owner of the trapeze is named Peter Gold. (I swear I couldn't stop myself) I explained to my son that Peter is really Peter Pan all grown up. See, when he left Never Never Land, Tinkerbell didnt' want to come so he doesn't have any pixie dust and can't fly anymore. So h...
