This was an assignment for comp. Friday’s Debate It is Friday night again. The weekend has arrived. A familiar debate is building in millions of households. Husbands and wives are sizing each other up, looking for signs of weakness, preparing to fight. It starts with a sideways glance, a tiny test of the water. “Honey, what do you want to do this weekend?” The debate is on. What should we do? Husbands around the country are constantly promoting the long-standing tra...

Damn it. I have a right to be irritable. I am in a slightly off mood. I can feel my patience run short and my emotions run high. I'm right on the edge of thinking I'm sad or depressed or just plain angry, but I have the little voice in the back of my head telling me that I should calm down and quit be so selfish, so "poor me". But DAMN IT, I DO have the right to be cranky. I can be sad or just plain miserable if I want. So there. Now that I got that out, I feel no better than ...

Maybe it's karma for teasing my sister about her louse weather last week. I called and told her how nice the 80-90 degree weather was.....I think this is the universe's way of teaching me a lesson.....or maybe this is the global warming that everyone keeps warning me about? So Connor got to play in the snow. Maddy stayed inside. I don't have a really good jacket for her and whe hates to be cold or wet....so she just watched from inside the new addition (which, BTW is DONE, FINISHED COMP...

Connor got up from his half eaten dinner. He studiously avoided my gaze and mumbled, "I'm not hungry." as he tried to sneak down the hall. "Wait right there. Did you eat ALL your food?" He continued burning a hole in the floor with his gaze. "I don't want to eat my vegetables. I'm not hungry anymore." Since I had not put out the main course, I knew he was lying through his tightly clenched teeth. He will usually eat broccoli, but salad seems to be less popular and he resists every ef...

So It's 5:30 am on a Sunday morning. Normally I don't get to sleep in because with 2 kids and church at 9 am....well, it's not a pretty sight if I try to sleep past 7 or 7:30. You may wonder what I am doing awake...you might even be surprised to learn I haven't gone to bed yet....and I won't An hour of sleep is almost worse than none at all. What could I possibly have been doing that would encourage me to have an all nighter? (It's not that common for me, I don't even remember the...

This was a response to an excerpt of Gordon Parks' essay, "Flavio's Home". We were asked "How does Gordon Parks’ use of description affect his essay?" I decided to avoid the common answer as much as possible. He was very graphic and did lure you in with his descriptive narration, but I wanted to focus on WHY. I found Gordon Parks’ essay, “Flavio’s Home” compelling. The graphic images drew me in and created a realistic world of sights and smells that was nearly tangible. His pity ...
