a companion series to Discourses of a Two Year old.
When my son was in his cute phase (yes, he's still cute, but a 4 year old cute is different from a one year old cute) I blogged about the funny things he did because HW was in Iraq...and Korea....and BNOC. But since HW is here, I haven't been motivated to blog about the kids as much, after all he already knows what's going on.
But now baby girl is getting into the cute phase (13 months). Due to some random events, I had the morning to be with her alone. I can't think of the last time I had time just the two of us. And it was so fun. I noticed just how much she is growing and developing....and she is also getting little quirks that just crack me up.
She likes to pretend : hugging a baby doll and kissing and patting it on the back. Pretending to talk on the phone etc. One of her favorite things is to take any cup shaped item and "drink" out of it. She recently realized that you have to have something in the cup to drink so she started adding a little ball or lego to the cup before she will pretend to drink.
Okay...I realize that this isn't nearly as cute on the screen as it is in real life, but just think of how cute it would be, then double it as you imagine her little face screwed up in concentration as she looks for something small enough to fit in her cup so she can have something to drink.
She is also mimicking words. She tries to repeat everything, but still doesn't usually have much of a vocabulary.....ball, MAMA, Dada, bear, puppy. That's about it. But yesterday I realized she calls her brother, bubba because I always tell her, "go play with your brother" I suppose brother has degenerated into bubba.
But today was the big break in communication! (Any parent can tell you that communication is the key to sanity!) She was fussing and I was asking her what she wanted. I expected her to get excited when I said the right thing or reach for what she wanted. As I ran through the likely culprits, diaper, milk, nap...she spoke up and TOLD me what she wanted!
"Nigh-night"
Alrighty then, we were off to bed and she laid down for her nap happy as can be. She was tired and wanted to rest. Hallelujah! Communication has been achieved!
