a place to put random discourses on life

Do you make New Year's Resolutions? If so, what are they?
Do you have any that you never accomplished?
I know that some people refuse to make goals jsut because it's a new year, but do you have ny non-new year specific resolutions that you are working on?

I've had the same goals since I was 15. Lose 15 lbs, be more organized/less messy and learn something new.

The first two are still works in progress. I just keep resetting my goal from 160 to 150 and now to 135 (that last one has been for a couple years but baby reset the timer on it...)

My house and life will always be in some disarray...sometimes more and sometimes less. I could always use bit more organization and cleaning in my life though. I do admit that I've been better the last few years....who knows in 10 more I may actually be able to have guests without warning!

The last one is always the same and has brought me great satisfaction. I don't just pick a goal in January, but I make it a point throughout the year. This year I learned basic plumbing, basic electric repair, digital scrapbooking, and random computer things (WB) In the past, I've chosen religious/spiritual themes, physical goals, yoga, paper scrapbooking, sewing, cooking, massage therapy, real estate, financial planning, Orthodontic training, rock climbing, calculus, cancan, self reliance, plumbing, food storage.

Many times I have learned something out of nessesity rathar than a simple curiosity, but no matter what I've learned, it has been a blessing and a joy. I may not have a degree from a university (another thing that overwhelms me) but I am a jack of all trades. I have a great deal of satisfaction knowing that I can do something.

Who knows what this year will bring? Car repair? (I hope not). Water aerobics? College? That last 15 lbs? (bye bye chocolote cookies!)

So let the New Year Ring and share your goals!

on my blog a couple of days ago I wrote my list for this coming New Year and mostly it's about
returning to doing things I love, that's what keeps me healthy and happiest.

Things like dancing in the dark, walking, swimming, and treating myself to some new clothes
now that I've lost 44 pounds.

food storage
Guess what our food storage of choice is? MREs I was so upset last month when I discovered one of our boxes was stolen 'cuz John forgot to put it in the storage room. Buh-bye $100.00! A perplexing thing to me is...how the heck are we supposed to store a year's supply of water? It weighs a lot, and doesn't each person require something like 3 gallons a day? (military = we move a lot and have a weight limit)

Anyway, not to hijack your topic...

Resolutions crop up all around the year for me. I often am too weak to keep them, but I try not to be too hard on myself and I just keep taking baby steps.
dancing in the dark
sounds like a lot of fun, for one thing and everything you are lh sounds like it would be a blast.

Your level of energy is mind-boggling.

We should all remember to do that!

Ahem....CONGRATS!

Don't worry about it. Get 72 hours worth. (NOT 3GL a day-that includes bathing as well) Just get a bottle of bleach. You can sanitize "most" water with a bit o'bleach. Unless you think you are going to be in a desert, don't sweat it. and if you are military, I would recommend NOT trying to store a full year's supply. A 3 or 6 month of rotating food stores is more effective. Military housing rarely has room to store it or storage that is appropriate. (nutrients are lost and food expires faster at higher temps.) so keep that in mind and....DON'T STRESS IT!

Your level of energy is mind-boggling.

Ah, yes, but I only do one thing at a time!

I just thought of some resolutions that crop up throughout the year...that I drop...but I'll keep trying:

Learn to sing alto.

Be self-confident.

Comb my hair every day.

Thanks for the food storage advice! You're truly a jack of all trades and a master of just about everything.

btw I'm proud to say that our food storage is already up to a 2-week supply! lol. MRE's are expensive, but I can't think of an easier way. Unless you know an easier way....and you probably do.

I may blog about this......but yes, there is a cheaper and easier way.

And, to add insult to injury, your food storage won't get shipped with your household goods. The movers won't ship "perishable" items. So you'll have to box up those 15 crates of pasta and load 'em into the back of the minivan.
