a place to put random discourses on life

When HW came home from PT today to take a shower....the knob came right out of the wall. He took a shower in the other bathroom (thank goodness we have 2 showers!).

Then as he left I noticed the front door was sticking again. I look closer and realize that it is the doorknob...It's broken.

Sigh. My house is falling apart. I guess I better get working.

I still have the hole in the wall to fix. (The drapes were too heavy and pushed the entire bracket through the drywall....serves me right for thinking I didn't need to find a stud)

The kitchen drawer is broken.

The tile in the bathroom is cracked by the toilet and chipped in the kitchen. The shower tiles are shifting (cause the water was leaking behind the wall from the faucet that just now broke off)

4 windows have condensation trapped between the double panes.

2 kitchen chairs are broken

and I have put it all off too long. Time to go to Home Depot and learn about bathroom plumbing......

i have a long list of fixes i need to do as well. my favorite is the toilet tank in the master bath. a chunk of the porcelain above the handle fell out and there is a hairline fracture from the handle down the length of the tank! i know i should replace it quick, but there is a bit of a morbid curiosity involved . . . how long can it hold out?

don't despair. it's all part of the joy of owning a home!

I do the simple stuff.  But I am smart enough to know the reason that plumbers are paid so much is because you can really screw that up!  I have a good plumbing company that I do respect.  They are not cheap by $$ standards, but they are cheap by being that good!

My Cousin is here right now.  Installing a dishwasher.  The Army trained him on this stuff.  I trust him.  So I pay him.

hee hee. I like hearing you say "morbid curiosity" It makes me wonder what evil thoughts lie in the heart of Mamie dearest.....

Ah yes, I do know when to call in help, but I figure that I can swing this one.....it shouldn't be THAT hard. Right now I'm stuck because I don't have the strength to get this tiny washer off. Plus i'm nervous about really forcing it....I'd hate to destroy anything....

Oh, I'm jealous. You can usually trust relatives not to overcharge....
