a place to put random discourses on life
Shopping anywhere else isn't this much fun.

I love to Ebay. Yes, it can be a verb.

It's like windowshopping in your underwear. You can dream about the 1965 GTO selling for $500.....even though you know that when the bidding stops four days from now, it will cost about as much as your house. Seriously though, Ebay is great place. With a little effort, you can find almost anything you want or even didn't know you wanted. And you can get it at a fantastic price.

I found a Fisher Price Castle. You know the one. It had the beds with foam mattresses that your brothers would peel off, the painted on decor and the flag on a spring. Seeing it brought back so many memories. I had a flashback to days spent playing with the little people and hiding them in the secret room under the stairs....I'm going to have to get one of these one day.

It's stupid how one beat up old toy can make you feel all good inside. When I was a kid, this was one of my favorite toys. It was magical....drawbridges for the Knight in Shining Armor to cross to save the Princess. Secret rooms and trapdoors. (Decal) Flowers that would bloom forever. Seeing it made me feel safe. It's from a point in my life before I knew about bad things in the world....before I realized how sad and scary life could be. It was from that time in childhood where every day has magic in it.

I was tempted to buy it, but I know that the magic won't be there when it's sitting in my home. (and it's almost $80 already) Now I see how the flowers are faded and the hinges are broken. I'd love to have it anyway. But the amazing thing is, I really don't need it to feel safe and happy. My life is wonderful...mostly thanks to HW. My home is my castle and HW is my knight in shining armor.

But just for a moment, I was a little girl again.

Thanks Ebay.

A very sweet blog.

I like e-window shopping, too. I go to Sephora.com and VictoriasSecret.com and Zales.com and Amazon.com and a bunch of other places and put things in my shopping cart or on a wish list all the time. Even when I don't buy anything, it's a neat feeling to dream about the things I'd like to have and an even better feeling not spending any money doing it, hehe.

Adrian bought a pricey sword set a few years back on ebay for $30, and my first purchase was a few weeks ago (the dress from my blog). I won it for $14.80 (plus $69 shipping and handling), and it was really exciting watching the numbers go down on the time left and I couldn't believe I'd won it and for such a great price.

The bidding and winning aspects (competition!) of ebay make it a lot of fun (more fun than buying a $40 bra at Victoria's Secret!).

Another great part: You don't get dissappointed when nothing fits....after all you are just looking!

i was being all nostalgic on ebay the other day, too. it was over a fisher price mandy doll and ginghams paper dolls. you're right though, they were great when i was seven, but what would i do with them now? there's no way i could let my kids play with them - and i'm told i'm too old to get them for myself. (i don't believe it, though!)

Who said you are too old for toys? What? Are they nuts? Of course you deserve to have anything your little heart desires!

You deserve to have anything your heart desires, too. I hope our little house is enough of a castle for you. You will always be my princess.

!!! That's a lot of money. I wonder if Fisher Price ever dreamed that castle could become so valuable. I shoulda saved my cabbage patch dolls in their minted condition. You know, the ones that went for $100 back in 1984. Sheesh.

I was drooling over some Spirographs on ebay a while ago (remember those?). Didn't get one, but I found a modern version of it at the PX. Woo hoo!

I'd expect the price of future ones to only go up and up, life. The nature of collectibles, which is what these are, now...

This one I used to play with at my late grandparents house in Pennsylvania. It was the coolest, with the trap door into the dungeon... we'd take the wooden (wooden, do you hear me!) Fisher Price people from the other sets to drop them down the chute. Yeah, that does bring back memories.

We had the wooden ones too! The new plastic ones are cute, but the old ones were special in their own way.

gee thanks! but i would feel a bit like a hypocrit - i tell my kids all day long "share, share, share".

and i think they call the wooden little people 'throat plugs' now.

i am still learning how to use all the joeuser stuff - please don't laugh at my silly mistakes.

and somejoe else is 'mamie' already so i had to add to my nickname. it's still me.

I'm so happy to see you MamieLady! and you are right about the choking hazzard....sigh.
