a place to put random discourses on life
I am sick of customer service.

The worst music in the world is the music that phone companies play when they put you on hold. It is enough to drive even the most sane person crazy in a matter of minutes.

I am sitting on the Lingo support line. I am trying to find out why I have a dial tone and I can call out, but NOBODY can call me! They get a message that says "The subscriber you are trying to reach in this network is unavalible." Needless to say, this is VERY irritating when I fin out that my boss and my husbands chain of command can't reach us! Especially when I wind up with a crappy work schedule because I couldn't be reached!

Anyway....back to the music. It sucked. Remember how on "Joe vrs the volcano" He talked about how the florescent lights sucked the life out of you? Well this sucks your soul out through the phone. Yup, It's that bad.

The actual tech support and customer service reps weren't much better. IF they spoke English, they were very condesending and patronizing. They also couldn't believe me. They had to "check the notes on that" or "make a test call". And then they were so surprized to find out that I WAS telling the truth.

The 55 minute phone call was filled with lots of really mind numbing, fingernails on a blackboard noise and very unhelpful people....I spoke to four different "experts". None of them could fix the problem. Here are the most common responses to my complaint.

"I'm not authorized to adjust any of that. Let me transfer you to tech support. Please hold."

"I forgot the person I was talking to..."

"Hold on"

"Let me check that" *Followed by the sound of someone trying to read the notes....I swear he must have been using his finger to follow the words....."

"I will just check your information....please hold."

"Let me transfer you to the next level of technical support...please hold."

"I see, can you hold while I review the trouble ticket?"

"I'm sorry. The person who can fix that is unavalible. Please hold for another rep."

"I need to conference call you back to customer service. Please wait one more minute while I explain situation to them."

And the best part......delivered in deadpan by an "English as a second language" man who stuttered.....(after 55 minutes of being transfered!!!!)

"We appologize for the inconvinience you have suffered in the troubles of your ummm....phone service. If the problem is not solved in one week we will try to resolve the issue that we are very sorry for your problem. Please understand we thank you for your call and want to help resolve your phone issues. Customer service will contact you in one week. Thank you.......*dial tone*

I'm too tired to start over, but if I had them in front of me....I might start swinging.

This is not funny, but you wrote this so well, I could feel your frustration.. Have you been praying lately for an increase in the virtue of patience? I have found that when I have prayed for patience, I invariably get a myriad of opportunities to practice it. I am missing the Wanderers blogs, but I can understand that he has more important things to attend to now that he is back home.

I feel your pain. Except I had to smile when you said that the "hold music" wasn't very entertaining...because I actually enjoy some of the hold music that companies have. There's this one at the clinic that always plays a muzak version of "All by Myself.". I get all caught up into it and start singing and flailing my arms, and my baby looks at me like I'm a weirdo.

btw, I really am sorry if "Lingo" is the company you switched over to just to talk to me!!! And we never even got to talk anyway. Ugh. I hope that's not the case.
