Or at least bad dreams

Does anyone have kids that wake up at night crying?

My son has been doing this for quite some time now and while they don't usually seem bad enough to be "night terrors" he occasionally does have a bad episode. I'm not sure why he is doing this or even if it normal. He is too young to explain what is wrong so most of the time I dont' know why he is up and crying. Occasionally he will tell me something happened and it is ussually something that bothered him durring the previous week or so....a kid threw dirt in his eyes and he will sometimes bring up that.

So what do you think?

This will be absolutely no help to you at all but my 1 year old occassionally wakes up crying, cries out or just whimpers in her sleep - when she was a newborn it used to freak me out because she'd be sleeping peacefully and I'd be looking at her and she'd crinkle up her nose and whimper and sometimes shake.

My boys used to do it.  Sometimes once a week, sometimes more.  They grew out of it....

Your boy has gone through a lot of changes recently.  His daddy left, then you were expecting a new baby....then daddy came back, the babay came, then daddy left again.....it's all been very tumultuous for him.

It wouldn't hurt to talk to your pediatrician if you're worried..... how are you feeling, anyway?

I'm with dharma, he must be a bit lost these days and it just disturbs his sleep. I dont think you are doing anything wrong. There are just too many confusing things going on for him. I'm sure he'll grow out of it once everything settles down.

But if you are really worried dont hesitate to get a doctor's opinion. It's always helpful.

Hope you all get better nights.

sometimes night tremmors are caused by a reaction to a certain food. If they get bad or regular, you might want to write down everything he eats and see if there's a relationship.

Boy, LH, sorry, I am way late on this one. But, yes, night terrors are normal and relatively common. Can you console him at all? Jessica (our oldest) went through a period about a year ago when I literally had to physically pick her up and carry her outside into the cold air to get her to be awake enough to be consolable and able to go back to sleep. Disconcerting, yes. But it didn't take too long for her to grow out of them. Unless they are very sever (it takes a really long time to get him to go back to sleep) then I wouldn't worry about it. I think the best advice for him it just to make going to bed as easy as possible. A nice routine, things to calm him down, whatever works best for him. Best of luck!

Dharma, BlueDev.
I'm glad to know that it's a normal thing....He seems to have stopped suddenly. Maybe it was just because Matt left.
Lysa,
I will watch for that...thanks.
