Russian Schoolchildren

For those who have not been following the recent events in Russia, there is a very good article written here, by a fellow blogger.

Read it. Be upset. Think of YOUR children or nieces and nephews on their first day of school. Think of how YOU would feel and the anger you would have over this if it was the school down the street. When I first heard about this, I was in shock. As a mother, I was horrified to think of what these children suffered. What kind of person could be so base, so callous that would allow them to commit such atrocities?

I am horrified at the actions of the Chechen rebels in Russia.....no, let's not mince words. The actions of these individuals was not the action of "rebels". A rebel is someone who refuses allegiance to and opposes by force an established government or ruling authority. What they did was not in any way the action of a rebel.....they are terrorists, pure and simple. Their actions were aimed at the innocent, at those weaker than themselves, who could not defend against such an attack. This is terrorism.

When this started, there was debate as to what nationality the terrorists were....and the media insisted on using the phrase "Chechen rebels" as so avoid implying that the actions were anything but that of a local uprising. Now that we know at least 10 were from Arab countries, why does the media suddenly condone the use of the word "terrorist"? My point is not that Arabs/Muslims are good or bad in general, so please don't flood me with pro/anti Arab sentiments. I am horrified that anyone of ANY religion or ethnicity could do something to this extreme. My anger is aimed at the terrorists. I am saddened that something like this could happen.

Over the next few weeks, we will undoubtedly hear of the "failure" of the Russian leaders to protect their children from this. I would just like to point out that this is the fear that strikes the heart of a mother.....that this could happen. I don't blame the government for the inability to predict and prevent this from happening....how could I? The plans of 26 people, while possible to monitor, is not feasible to prevent. It is the idea that the government should stop every murder, rape and assault BEFORE it happens. That is why this is an act of terror. Who could anticipate that 322 people, including 155 children would be brutally murdered on the first day of school?

If anyone wonders why I feel that "sympathizing with terrorists" and attempting "peaceful" solutions is idiotic and pointless....then this serves as a perfect example. Anyone who would murder children because they didn't get what they wanted.....should get a bullet right between the eyes. I don't care what the end goal would be....if you engage in acts of terror, you should die. if you support terrorist groups with money or protection, you should die. Soldiers fight soldiers, they don't slaughter children.

So at the risk of being assaulted by the liberals out there, I say that I do support Bush. I think anyone who has the moral conviction to make a decision and act on it, with the goal of removing the threat of terrorists should be supported. I cannot endorse anyone who wants to allow others to kill, maim and destroy, while waiting for a nice, sensitive, popular choice to become avalible. I do not want my homeland to become hostage to the demands of terrorists. The countries that allow themselves to be bullied by the actions of a few have shown me that I am proud that i am living in a country that has a leader who doesn't allow the actions of a few to control the nation's policies. I don't always agree with Bush's policies, but in this I am stalwart.

I can understand your shock as a mother, but please remember that Putin is, if anything, more of a hardliner than Bush. He will not bend, he will not desist. BUT, in the last three weeks Russia has suffered 3 terrorist attacks, all fatal.

The rule of law is all that keeps the executioners hands clean of blood. The rule of law is the only thing that allows us to remain, at the end of it all, innocent.

Without the rule of law, like those we seek to punish, we become nothing more than murderers. Without the rule of law there is nothing left to distinguish "us" from "them".

Every terrorist must pay and every punishment must be proportionate to the crime. We MUST NOT allow the innocent to perish in our quest for justice, no matter how strongly we feel that retribution must be met out.

We must remain reasonable in the face of maddness or else all is lost.

I do not advocate the mass murder of every muslim because a few choose to act outside the law.

On the other hand, I do not have any lienency for those who carry out acts of terrorism. If when caught in the act, you are killed while those you have terrrorized are rescued, I feel no pity. If you are captured, then I would hope ample evidence would make it clear you are guilty before your punnishment is carried out. Yet, I would be appalled if even one terrorist was to find a "loophole" and get off because "proper proceedures" were not carried out. Actions determine consequenses. Live with it....or die with it. It is a simple choice.

We are All as responsible for Our world and what goes on in it as our governments ....and the terrorists...What do We do as the mass populace of Our World....? Well, I think some of us try to do something......a lot of us follow the events emotionally and converse and condemn the atrocities.......some don't care and continue obliviously through their personal lives. We must realize that We are All responsible to an extent and We must All take on board the responsibility of the creation of Our lives. We as the populace have become too passive and allow our governments to solve all the problems in the world....but they are Our problems too and it is time We spoke up for Ourselves.
Do we want to live in peace and contentment as a world population....or do we continue the path we are travelling which will ultimately end in our demise? Is it that hard for us to decide? What do we want the legacy We hand down to Our Children to be....Death and Destruction or Peace and love?
Let us procrastinate no more.
