I had one of the coolest moments today.....I was watching my son play and realized that there was a method to his madness. Humor me as I attempt to share his way of speaking.
He is playing with a bunch of Fisher Price Zoo animals in his room. He is narrating as he plays, directing them what to do.
First he shows them the slide...."here whee" and shows with his finger what to except.....including the requisite, "Wheeeeee"
Then they start taking turns. This is the cool part. He lined them up in a row and let each one have a ride. "Roar turn" "bird turn" "arf arf turn"(the seal) He meticulously pulled each one of them out of line, in order and then returned them to their space. Ensuring that all got to have a turn, with sound effects....
My heart swelled just a little more as I realized he does hear what I try to teach him. I am so proud of what a cool little boy he is turning out to be.....I only hope I can keep it up for another 16 years.....at least right now he is loving, kind and full of joy. I wonder how much of his behavior is a result of my influence and how much is just him.
One last bit.......
Everything makes him laugh...Playing with a tape measure makes him laugh when he figures out what the button does(holds the measure out) and most of all when he finds the number 4. This is another new trick. He recognizes the number 4 everywhere and loves to point it out. Loudly. Especially at Walmart where the prices are large and easy to see. He still hasn't given up on the notion that he's 4 years old...ask him how old he is and he will tell you, "FOUR!!!!!" as he holds up his index finger.......
