so JUers....what events were you around for? What sticks in your head as "I remember when...."?

Looks like I'm the same age as your hubby, so there's your list.
Interesting list, to say the least.

Historically, I like to say I grew up during the climax of the Cold War. When I was young, in school at Ft. Hood Texas, we still did air raid drills. I remember being devastated when Spinks beat Ali, seeing Star Wars in its first run at a drive in movie theater, the tense moments in January '86 when the Challenger exploded, a year that was bookended by the December round the world solo flight of the Voyager (incidentally, I got to speak with Dick Rutan personally a few years back. He's been a hero since that historic flight).

20 years old at the time of the 9-11 attack on America ~I remember this one, was on my way to a college class
18 years old on the first day of Y2K ~ remember this too and never understood why it was such a big deal...
16 years old when Princess Diana was killed in a car crash ~ Mom woke me up that Sunday to tell me what happened and I was like "Who is Princess Di?"
13 years old at the time of Oklahoma City bombing ~ Don't really remember, but later lived in OKC and learned about it
12 years old when O. J. Simpson was charged with murder ~ my family was on a trip and my dad was trying to catch some sports game on the radio but all he could find were reports about the car chase...
11 years old at the time of the 93 bombing of the World Trade Center ~ Don't remember (maybe I was really sheltered)
9 years old when Operation Desert Storm began ~ I remember
8 years old during the fall of the Berlin Wall ~ Don't remember
4 years old when the space shuttle Challenger exploded
2 years old when Apple introduced the Macintosh
a 1 year old during Sally Ride's travel in space

Some things they left out that I remember quite clearly:
April 19, 1993 Branch Davidian Massacre This was all everyone was talking about in Texas at the time. I had not heard about it leading up to the showdown, but we were all glued to the TV in the end.
February 1, 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia disintigrates while re-entering the atmosphere. I was in a car with my mom and several aunts. We were driving across Texas and suddenly all our cell phones started ringing. We probably would have seen it had we been looking.
March 2003 "Shock and Awe" Beginning of the "war with Iraq" We were on a spring break mission trip in Mexico when it went down. We watched it on TV at Chilli's in Spanish and worried if we would have trouble coming back into the US.

Anyway, now you more a little about me. Oops, I forgot a lady is never supposed to reveal her age...
