a place to put random discourses on life
How many FREAKING TIMES!?!?!?!
Published on August 5, 2007 By lifehappens In Blogging
So, HW called me today. He spent $175 on a pair of boots. Knowing the rigures of Army life, I understand the need for good footwear. A little pricey but we can deal with it....

But OHhhhhh no. We were not charged once for the boots.

We were charged 3 freaking times!

I am so sick of calling the bank. First my purse was stolen. Then our banking account was comprimised. Now, HW's card is comprimised as well. The bank insists that because the card was swiped three times, that they cannot fix the problem until regular buisness hours. So we are suddenly short not the $175 that we expected, but a whoopping $525!!! The guy on the phone wouldn't do anything except cancel his card (oh BTW Sweetie...they are canceling your card. I hope you have some cash till the new one gets there) And apparently, if we DON'T cancel his card and it was intentional, not just glitch in the system, then we won't get any future money back if it was fraud. GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

I can't believe it. 3 times in 3 months. This is ridiculous. I am taking fraud more seriously now, but I'm really really sick of this.

They say that bad things come in threes. It sounds like you've had your fair share so hopefully that will be it for while. It is frustrating.

Okay, so I seriously understand that banks are buisnesses and are out there to make a profit, but they seriously don't realize that they deal with humans. They completely take advantage of crappy situations. It's ridiculous.

I hope that you can get you can get everything straightened out, LH.

You should try a credit union. We have used them for years and loved them!

Don't give up hounding the bank. Even they give in to customer service every once in awhile.

I have one each of the major credit cards.  One of them shines when we have these problems.  Never an argument or stall.  DO I need to say which ones we use every chance we get?

I already cancelled one that tried that routine on us.  They keep sending me a statment saying I have a 6 dollar credit. It is not worth the 6 bucks to call them and they screwed up again.

It's like Let's Make a Deal, behind curtain number one or in the box...

"If it's a glitch, you'll get your money back if you keep the card - but if you keep the card, and it's fraud, you don't get any money back. And, we're not going to tell you whether or not it's a glitch until after you've decided - now, do you want to cancel the card, or do you want what's behind curtain number 2?"

Ouch! That's just awful! If the banks could just be more humane!

Update on the bank front.

The idiot who answered the phone last night was a moron. I wasn't much happier after talking to a new person today but it is an improvement. The "charges" are pending. Apparently there is occasionally a glitch in the system from Iraq. It takes a few days to process. In the meantime, there are three "holds" pending. I can't get them removed untill the 9th which is when they will actually "process". The woman on the line assured me that it's probably not a situation of fraud where we need to cancel the card and she undid the damage that the freak did on Sunday. Apparently the cancel was in a "hold" status from the weekend till it could be "officially" processed. My concern about bouncing a check between now and then was resolved. Apparently, they will process all actual payments and checks FIRST before processing this. So my mortgage won't bounce but if they do charge all 3, then the 2nd 2 will bounce and I can file a dispute.

She assured me that this sometimes happens and that's why they note it in the account but don't take the money out (they just "hold" it) until the charges are actually verified. She said that NLT the 9th it should be corrected but if on Thursday it's still wrong, they will fix it quickly becuase she has everything noted in my file.

So sigh. Fingers crossed.

It's not the banks fault on any of this. It's just a hassle for me to go through it all. After my purse was stolen, they upgraded the security on my account. They ask for random verifying information. I'm actually grateful. Some banks or creditors only ask for the zip and account number....all info that woudl be found on a bill.....that someone OTHER than me could get. So I'm happy enough to answer questions on the phone and to show id when I run my card....it's less hassle later on!
