I finally decided that the planned sleeping arrangements are going to change. The
plan
was to move Maddy into the old computer room. I haven't' moved the piano out yet, but I am trying to get the room ready as much as possible now. I've painted the walls, refinished a dresser and her baby cradle already. As soon as her bed is moved in and I make some curtains. she can move in.
I found a pretty (free) daybed. It was just like the one I wanted as a kid that I never was able to have. it's white metal with curly cues shaped like hearts.....and after staring at it for a while I realize that this was not going to work. Right now she can just barely climb into her bed.....a box spring and mattress on the floor. I realized that if I put even just her mattress on the frame, she will need a pretty decent step stool to get into it.....and a large safety rail. At that point this bed will just look like an over-sized crib. Which, btw I would still be using sans the side rail if she could have gotten in and out. Her taller brother, Connor had no problems getting in and out of the crib easily from about 18 months till he moved to a big bed.
So we headed off to IKEA to test out a cute bed. I asked her is she wanted to go shopping with Mommy and she replied, "Yeeaah!! Go to BIG Hobby Lobby!" (I'm going to have to break her of that habit before Dad gets home...) So we spent a rousing hour in the kids bed department as she bounced from bed to bed in her frilly pink princess dress. She insisted on testing every bed and even the bottom shelf of a changing table. She attracted lots of attention and flirted with everyone who stopped to grin at her. I decided that the bed I originally wanted was not as practical as a more expensive, but expandable bed.
So we navigated the rest of the maze to discover....the bed was out of stock. GRRRRRRR!!!!!
i guess it wasn't' meant to be. But wait, there in the AS IS section, was the original bed that I wanted!
It was $20 off and I could not figure out why it was in the seconds area. There were no scratched or damages. Turns out that the box was damaged in shipment and they won't sell items in a damaged box. They assembled it and then sold it to me for $20 off! Woo Hoo!!! Fortunately it fit in the van.....just barely. I think there was 1/2 inch of leeway. Fortunately I am pretty good at yoga. that flexibility paid off. I had climbed in to hold the bed in place while my friend shut the door.....then I had to wiggle out from under the bed and back of the seat. Wheew.
I brought it home and set it up. Perfect. It fit the space in her room and fit her perfectly as well. She loved it and insisted on getting her pillow and blanket so she could practice sleeping on her new bed. Connor was even a little jealous. He wanted to have a sleepover in her new room!
So bedtime rolls around and I put her pillow back on the mattress in Connor's room. There are no curtains and the piano and other stuff is still in the room. You would have thought I took away every toy she every had. She cried as though I stole every piece of candy that she was ever going to eat. I have never heard such a pitiful, miserable sob. She just ran into her room (the old one) and threw herself on her mattress with the drama of a soap opera queen.
She's sleeping on her new bed.
