Some background. My two year old is tiny. 20 lbs. She is so small that she falls inside the little training seat that sits on the toilet. So I bought her a potty chair. She likes to climb inside it instead of sitting on it to pee. So I decided that every time her older brother goes to the bathroom, she will go too and sit on her chair. After a week, she no longer sits IN the chair but on it. Still no pee, but we are making progress.

This is a conversation I overheard.
Connor:
Here's how you poop, Maddy
You have to push really hard.
Uhhhhhh
That was really hard wasn't it?
See. You can do it!
Don't get IN the toilet. You will get "flashed" away!
You're too big to get flashed away
I went in the toilet and now I'm pooping.
*Grunt*
*Baby grunts back*
"Maddy you want me to flash you away?" "NOOO!"
"I flashed you away!" "NOOOO!!"

Baby claps. "yea!! Poop!!! Ewwww Yuck!"

mom sighs. This will take forever.

That's a great big brother!

And this forever will eventually not last long enough, as you look back on it and it's the blink of an eye.

Between you and Tex, I'm really missing my boys right now.

What's funny about this title is, our almost 4 year old DID basically train our nearly two year old.

Our oldest was almost four before she was potty trained. We were starting to get concerned, and not looking forward to potty training our second. But our second daughter was 21 months old and instantly potty trained...the best we could figure is she had been watching us work with the oldest.

We took a trip out to DC the weekend she decided she didn't want to be in diapers anymore, and all the way out and back she never once went in her training pants.

I'm still looking for training pants small enough. Today the skirt she wore was a 6/9 months....sigh.

Aww! They're TOO darn CUTE!

Our Shea was the hardest to potty train, and I think that was in part because she didn't have anyone to look up to. We got her clean and dry during the day by getting her some pink and purple panties with Barbies and My Little Ponies on them. We made a big deal out of how pretty they were and asked her if she wanted to mess them up by going potty in them. She said no, and that was it; she never had to wear a siaper or pull-up again.

Davey had turned 2 in September of '96, and in December he decided that he didn't want to be like his baby brother and wear diapers anymore - and that was it. He didn't need pull-ups during the day and only wet his pants very rarely at night.

Jake was 2 and a half and he did the same thing. He saw his brother and sister not wearing diapers and decided he wanted to be like them. We did the same thing with him as we did with Shea - got him some underwear with his favorite characters on them (at the time it was Po from the Teletubbies)- and again, that was all it took.

Madeline is just a dainty little thing, isn't she? She's just a beauty!
