a place to put random discourses on life

Actually, I put my Christmas tree up 2 days ago.

Since HW isn't here, I don't have to wait till the day after Thanksgiving to put it up. So I decided to take a week to decorate. I put the tree and lights up....and a few nativities....not too much yet.

I also bought a tree for my kids' bedroom. Connor picked out all red lights but I nixed that idea and suggested HW's favorite, multicolored. So this weekend we are putting it up and then during break, we will be making stars and stringing popcorn...or maybe making gingerbread ornaments ....

I put up my main tree's lights during my daughter's nap. Fortunately that saved me the mocking that I would have recieved had anyone witnessed me blowing a fuse.....again. One of these years I will get it right. This year I only have 12 strands of lights.....it might be 13 or 14, I think I lost count at one point. I did have to go buy more when I ran out. (Yes, Matt, I used all the white lights and STILL ran out before I got to the top of the tree.) I blew the fuse in the nifty extension cord that is supposed to help connect more without having to go end to end. But I forgot to read the directions.....you can only put 9 strands on before you destroy it.

Oops.

But I did use 150 or 200 bulbs per strand this year instead of 100. That may have been part of the problem.

I ran 350 white lights around the nativities (like stars in the background) and an additional 800 colored around the ceiling and down the hall and through the kitchen, but they don't show up really well unless the tree is off.....

At least the kids will think it's cool.

I'm loving this! I was talking to my hubby about doing this early this year too. Not waiting until after thanksgiving too. I can at least plan! My goal is to have it up for thanksgiving, we'll see. I want to really go all out this year and really decorate to the hilt.

This is really great for you to do this for the kids. And the tree for your son's room, good idea!

We have started decorating.  My wife hatest hat it takes almost to Christmas to hang all of them, so we started last weekend.  I know, I am going to be arrested, but I dont care.  I like Christmas. and dont mind having it around a little longer.

I've been taking constructive criticism very well the past year or so, but it really riles me to have a 6-year old point out an obvious mistake I've just made. I hadn't really considered it mocking (and I'm certain the child doesn't think so either), but I do think I react to it as if it were. Interesting.

Good job on the lights. I still have to decide if I'll buy any to string up; I didn't get the Christmas lights in the divorce.

Brad keeps ridiculing me because I have been listening to a radio station that plays Christmas music.  It just cheers me up and I've been needing that lately.  It also gets me in the mood to shop and plan which I need motivation for.  I absolutely love Christmas but it is a lot of work.  Why not give yourself a little more time in order to enjoy it.

I'm totally with the "No Christmas until after Thanksgiving" school of thought.  I like all the decorations and lights, but I get sick of them if I see them for too long.  It also loses that "special" feeling if it's seen for so long.  Plus, I truly *love* fall decorations and fall colors, so I rather decorate for Thanksgiving than to have Thanksgiving look like Christmas.

Luckily, my husband agrees with me, so there's no dispute over the holiday events- the day after Turkey is the day we start the Christmas decorating.

Glad to motivate!

That's the idea. Take your time, avoid the stress.

Actually, I was thinking of HW teasing me. The year before last I ran all the lights end to end and blew out all of them....all 15 of them!

I have fall stuff up on 1 Sept. so by the end of November I am ready for Christmas!

I like this one. My mother-in-law found a fantastic deal on frozen turkeys the other day. $0.29/pound. Really great. So, she picked on up for them and one for us. One small problem ... we're going over to their house for Thanksgiving dinner.

Oh, and the other one... they dropped it off (still frozen) at 10 AM this morning and I'm not heading home 'til after 4 PM ... So it'll be well defrosted by that time and ready to cook tonight!

Oh, I'm going to be sick of turkey by new years.

Honestly, I don't like Thanksgiving dinner.....too much work! BUT I LOVE LEFTOVERS! I could eat a turkey, mayo and cranberry sauce sandwich every day breakfast lunch and dinner from now to Christmas and still love them!

My daughter's birthday is December 15th, and we've always put up the tree the next day. However, it's been left up well into February on more than one occasion...
